Removing Beta Versions of RILSIM from your Computer
Beta versions of RILSIM are those in which the version number is indicated as 1.0.
The first formally released (non-beta) version was 1.05. All versions prior to that
had internal version numbers of 1.0. Click here to find out how to determine
which version of RILSIM has been installed on your computer.
If a beta version of RILSIM has been installed on your computer it should be completely
removed in order to avoid conflicts with later versions, or simply to clean up
your computer. This involves deleting the program files and removing several entries
from the Windows Registry.
The process of removing beta versions of RILSIM is much less formal than that of
removing distribution versions because the beta versions were not installed using
Windows Installer.
Here are the steps to follow if you need to remove a beta version of RILSIM from your computer:
-
Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder named C:\Program Files\RILSIM.
Delete this folder and all of its contents. If you wish to keep any of the datafiles
(*.rdb) in this folder, move them to another location before deleting the folder.
The latest distribution version of RILSIM can read all .rdb files, even though
the format has changed. The format will be automatically updated to the latest version
when you save the file from within RILSIM.
-
If you placed a shortcut to the RILSIM executable file, C:\Program Files\RILSIM\RILSIM.exe,
anywhere on your system (for instance, on your computer desktop), drag the shortcut
to the Recycle Bin. After the folder has been removed as described in Step 1 this
shortcut will no longer function.
-
Clean up your Windows Registry by downloading and running a utility program named
RegClean.exe. This program removes all of the registry entries created by beta versions
of RILSIM. After you run it once you can delete RegClean from your hard drive. RegClean
is a small file that can be downloaded by clicking
here (0.044 Mbytes). Make a note of the location where you save it on your
hard drive, then navigate to that folder with Windows Explorer. Double-click the
filename to execute it.
-
The RegClean.exe utility file has only one purpose in life, so after you have run it once
as described in Step 3 you can delete it from your computer.
-
After you have removed the beta version of RILSIM from your computer, you can install
the latest version of RILSIM by downloading the installation
module.
