RILSIM
RILSIM, the “Reduced-Impact Logging SIMulator”,
is financial modeling software developed as a service to the international forestry community. RILSIM has been designed to
permit users to rapidly estimate the costs and net revenue associated with logging operations in order to compare short-term
financial costs and returns expected from reduced-impact logging with those expected from conventional logging under
identical local site conditions. The purpose of the software is to help users learn about reduced-impact logging and its
potential financial advantages as compared to conventional logging.
How to Obtain RILSIM
RILSIM is provided free of charge to anyone, anywhere in the world. The current version
is available only as a download; we no longer have financial support to
provide the software on CD-ROM with a printed user's guide.

Language Translations
RILSIM has been translated into French, Portuguese, and Spanish as follows:
-
RILSIM Français—The first non-English version of RILSIM, released in January 2006. This version
was translated by Hélène Genet on behalf of FORM International,
a forestry training and consulting company based in the Netherlands with projects throughout French-speaking Africa.
Financial support for the translation was provided by USAID
and the International Programs Office of the US Forest Service.
Ms. Genet also translated the user's guide. RILSIM Français has subsequently been upgraded to version 2.02 in 2009.
-
RILSIM Português—Translated originally for primary use in Brazil and released in March 2006. The translation was
done by Bringel Tecnologia Ltda on behalf of Instituto Floresta Tropical (IFT),
a Brazilian non-governmental organization specialized in training for reduced-impact logging in alliance with the Tropical Forest Foundation of Alexandria, Virginia, USA. The user's guide was also translated. Financial assistance for the translation was provided
by USAID and the
International Programs Office of the USDA Forest Service. RILSIM Português has subsequently been upgraded to version 2.02 in 2009.
-
RILSIM Español—This translation was released in January 2009. The translation was carried out primarily by
Christian Grossheim, a technical expert working in Perú, with support from the Peruvian office of the
German Development Service, DED.
The software and help files were translated but not the user's guide.
